Grand US Tour 2010: Return to Disneyland

PauTravels and family in Disneyland again

This US trip of 2010 of our family has been a very long trip and it was ending as we met the new year of 2011.   We have seen the bright lights of Las Vegas, the beauty of the Grand Canyon, the theme parks of Los Angeles, the scenic hills of San Francisco, and experienced snow in Tahoe.   But due to the rains that we have encountered when we first visited Disneyland, we had postponed our return until this last 3 days left for us before flying back to the Philippines.

And so on new year’s day, we embarked on visiting once more Disneyland.  This as we have a 3-day visit ticket for the park as part of the CityPASS that we purchased.  Fortunately, this time around we were granted with a very good sunny weather.  That it was my brother and his family and my cousin Angel who went with us.

There was a bit a crowd that day but it was fine as it was dry unlike the last time.  By the entrance, we first had our pictures taken with the Disney train as it stops at the Main Street Station.  And on that same spot is where a big picture of Mickey.  Then after some shots, we proceeded on entering the park and crossing under the train bridge where a familiar sign is posted just like in Hong Kong Disneyland.  It states ‘Here you leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow, and fantasy.’

Straight away we headed up the train  and took our ride to Mickey’s Toontown which is 2 stops after Main Street and is located at the back side of the park.   Basically Mickey’s Toontown is designed like those classic Disney cartoons and very much meant for young kids.  Here we were able to enter Minnie’s and Mickey’s houses and see Chip n’ Dale’s Treehouse.

After that, we headed to one of Disney’s most famous attraction, the It’s a Small World ride.  We queued up for the boat ride.   Basically the ride leads the guests on a boat ride to see the world through singing dolls dressed in different costumes of people from all over the world.  It leads us through the Americas, Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia, Oceania and the Arctics.   And all throughout the ride they played the It’s a Small World song in different languages as we passed each region in the ride.  And just like in my first visit here in 2004, I waited to see the doll in Filipiniana dress.

Next, we headed to the roundabout at the center of the park just across the Sleeping Beauty castle to look for a good spot to sit to catch the first parade for that day.  Their theme that time was A Christmas Fantasy.  And as it was about lunch time we just bough some pasta and pizza and ate along the curb.

One the parade started, the kids were excited as nutcrackers and elves march down the street.  Among the first floats that passed was Santa Claus’ wife’s with Donald and Daisy on board.  Next was Pooh and Tigger on snow sleds.  Janine instantly try to show Pooh her own Pooh stuffed toy.  They are then followed by skaters with big snowflakes.  And then snowman mascots ushered the float of Mickey and Minnie while ice skating and Eeyore trailing behind with his broken sled.  Next ginger bread men marched the street to usher Goofy and Max’s float.

Then they were followed by Cinderella’s step mother and step sisters as they usher the floats of the Disney princesses.  There was Cinderella, Aurora the Sleeping Beauty, Ariel the Little Mermaid, Snow White and their respective princes.  Belle and the Beast from Beauty and the Beast were also was there.  They went of their float and danced in the street for a while before riding again.

They were then followed by Chip n’ Dale on a jeep and then by the float of Toy Story where Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the Martians ride.  Also Pinocchio and Jiminy Cricket is on board.  They were then followed by the Seven Dwarves and raindeer dancers which are at the end of the parade.

After the parade, we again separated from my brother and his family as we shall be hunting all the Disney princesses for their autographs while they will be going for those that are for boys.  We first headed to the castle where Janine road a carousel.  While there, they also took a toilet break which was unfortunate as suddenly Peter Pan came out and I was not able to get his autograph.  But anyways, we just went straight to Pixie Hollow were we met with Tinkerbell and Terrence.

Next we headed to the Fantasy Faire Theatre to catch a show.  That day the Disney princesses made some performance and asked every little girl to join them and dance.  Janine loved this very time as she was able to dance close to the Disney princesses.  And while the show was on going, I was queueing up outside to get the photo opportunity with the princesses.  We were able to catch Ariel, Mulan, Aurora, and Belle.

It was starting to get dark when we moved to the New Orleans section of the park to catch a 6pm show where another princess is performing.   Unfortunately, Janine was too tired already for that long day that she had already dozed off when Tiana of the Princess and the Frog performed.

Next we tried to catch Pooh in their photo session and was fortunately get the last spot for the photos.   And so Janine was able to get the autographs of Tigger, Winnie the Pooh and Eeyore.

It was already dark then but we were not yet finished as we just went past Tomorrowland and watch the grand fireworks that night.  The castle was lit with different colors as the fireworks shoot to the skies in the mellow of Christmas music.

It was a very long day that day and there was one last attraction that we wanted to see.  My camera battery already dried out that day so I no longer had photos of it.   But we met my brother in Frontierland by the Rivers of America where they reserved us some space.   We are catching the 9pm Fantasmic! show. And I would say that it was the best show to end that wonderful visit to Disneyland. It brought back childhood memories specially at the end of the show where all the Disney characters bade farewell while on board a Mississippi River ship.  It was a great show and I was very glad that we were able to watch it.
